Tricia Bengel is Tenn-Share President for 2010-2012

Tricia Bengel, Technical Services Administrator at Nashville Public Library, began her term as President of Tenn-Share on February 4. Chuck Sherrill, newly appointed State Librarian & Archivist, resigned as President of Tenn-Share, so Tricia moved up from her position as President-Elect.

Melissa Brenneman, Reference Librarian at Knox County Public Library, has been appointed Vice President/President-Elect to replace Tricia. She will serve in this office for a 2010-2012 term.

Library Legislative Day is February 24

Tenn-Share is proud to support Tennessee Library Legislative Day.

Tennessee Library Legislative Day is February 24th this year.  We ask all of you to sign up to be in Nashville that day, to have lunch with your legislators and to meet with them in their offices afterward.

Once again the day begins with a session at Nashville Public Library. This year Marci Merola, Director of the ALA Office of Advocacy, will be our speaker.
 

Secretary Hargett Appoints Charles Sherrill as State Librarian and Archivist

Charles Sherrill, Director of the Brentwood Library and President of Tenn-Share, has been selected as the new State Librarian and Archivist for Tennessee. Secretary of State Tre Hergett issued this statement:

Charles Sherrill, a Middle Tennessean with 25 years of experience as a library administrator, will begin his new job as State Librarian and Archivist Feb. 5, Secretary of State Tre Hargett announced this week.

The State Librarian and Archivist directs operations at the Tennessee State Library and Archives (TSLA), the agency that collects, stores and displays state documents and records. The State Library and Archives also operates the Tennessee Regional Library System, provides training and support for other public libraries throughout the state and oversees the Tennessee Library for the Blind and Physically Handicapped, which offers free library services to people with disabilities.

Jeanne Sugg's retirement

Tenn-Share regrets that our State Librarian and Archivist, Jeanne C. Sugg, has announced her retirement effective in January 2010. 

Jeanne SuggMs. Sugg has been an advocate for Tennessee libraries and, especially, the Tennessee Electronic Library since coming to the office in 2005. Her career has spanned more than 40 years and, in addition to 25 years at the Tennessee State Library, included service at Trevecca College, Nashville Public Library, and expatriate community libraries in Saudi Arabia.

We wish her well!

Stimulus Funds for Broadband - September Update

The Tennessee State Library and Archives, in cooperation with the Department of State and ten other state agencies, has submitted the State of Tennessee Broadband Stimulus Grant Proposal to increase broadband availability to the greatest number of underserved citizens in rural areas of Tennessee.
